Transport Vehicle Workshop Manager
The Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL) is seeking to recruit a suitable individual to fill up the position of Transport Vehicle Workshop Manager. This role will be responsible for the smooth operation of the Transport Vehicle Workshop Department to ensure the operational efficiency of the Company’s vehicles/fleet and motorized agricultural equipment. The Manager directs, plans and organises the daily activities of the Vehicle Workshop to make sure that all the vehicle repair, maintenance, and other tasks are assigned to the technical personnel and are being carried out in a professional and proactive manner.
The key responsibilities of this roles include but not limited to:
- Coordinate the management of Central Workshop which support equipment associate with Oil Palm ensuring that workshop facilities/resources are appropriate to meet current and any future expansion in GPPOL’s operations
- Develop a strong team to plan, implement and control the servicing, maintenance and repair of agricultural equipment, heavy plant, static equipment and vehicles
- Ensure Mill-end products are delivered to the bulking stations on timely manner and strictly follow shipment datelines
- Ensure all fleets are maintained well at all times and keep downtime at the required level
- Ensure spare parts for all fleets and agricultural equipment are always available. Proactive approach is highly required to manage spare parts
- Identify performance needs and manage training and development program to ensure all workshop personnel and maintain high standard of workmanship at all times
- Ensure that all vehicles are registered, insured and comply with the highway/national traffic laws of Solomon Islands in conjunction with the Finance Department
- Prepare annual capital and operational budgets for the department and distribute to all equipment users the utilization cost equipment for their operational budgets. Ensure that the Workshop MIS has the appropriate budget data recorded in it to compare the actual cost against budget.
Qualification, Skills and Knowledge and Experience
- Tertiary qualification (Degree) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or possess relevant trade’s certificates with heavy vehicle knowledge and Workshop Management experience.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in agricultural workshop management and/ field engineering operations, preferably in the palm oil or similar industry
- Agricultural Equipment management and operations including repair & Maintenance
- HSE management
- Extensive knowledge of transportation management systems and have excellent analytical skills
- Possess exceptional leadership skills and maintain the company's high standard of customer service
- Innovation and the ability to improve work practices and embrace change
- Operation Monitoring: able to read gauges, dials, and other indicators, and adjust them as necessary
- Must be of sober habits
- Ability to work well in team
