Use your extensive coordination skills as a Country Programme Coordinator for Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA), assisting volunteers and providing administrative support to their Programme Manager. Join VSA’s development team and together with their volunteers work to achieve positive outcomes with their partner organisations.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours) permanent position.

Who are VSA
Volunteer Service Abroad: Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) is New Zealand’s largest and most experienced volunteer agency working in international development. They connect people from New Zealand to organisations here in Tonga. VSA works across the Pacific building connections.

VSA works with its Tonga partners, to connect them with volunteers so together they can share experiences, knowledge, and cultures. VSA puts an emphasis on building respectful partnerships and creating assignments with a focus on people-centred development that will make an impact locally.

The nature of the position
This role is an important part of VSA’s Solomon Islands programme team. As the Country Programme Coordinator, you will provide coordination and administrative support to the Programme Manager for Solomon Islands. Working with the Programme Manager and VSA’s New Zealand-based staff, you will help with coordinating the in-country operational logistics; including helping to sort visas, travel arrangements and finding suitable accommodation.

In this role you will need to keep on top of VSA’s office management and property portfolio requirements, ensuring office records and finances are well maintained, and leases and utility agreements are paid and up to date. Your process and systems skills will ensure everything runs seamlessly and is continuously improved.

You will get to interact with VSA’s wonderful New Zealand Volunteers, briefing them on arrival with your local knowledge and providing them with language and cultural training. Your friendly nature will provide a supportive and caring environment to their volunteers, helping them with any of their queries or needs, and ensuring successful assignment completion for their partners.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role
The ideal Country Programme Coordinator will be a trustworthy, resilient, and adaptable self-starter. VSA is looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work both collaboratively and independently.

You will have:

  • Experience in administration, property, office and/or operational management.
  • Successful experience in developing office systems and maintaining office records.
  • Training or qualification in banking and accounting management, ensuring accurate financial records are maintained. Comfortable also with the handling of cash.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email applications is required.
