Program Background

The HR Adviser will work with the Solomon Islands Education Sector Support Program (ESSP) to build the capacity of the Solomon Islands Education Sector to deliver quality basic education. ESSP provides the implementation arrangements for the combined New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) investment to support the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) to implement its Education Strategic Framework 2016–2030 (ESF) and the National Education Action Plan (NEAP).

ESSP promotes strengthened sector-wide donor coordination; provides funding through sector budget support and targeted capacity development and also funds activities implemented by non governmental organisations engaged in the provision of education.

ESSP is managed under the Australia-Solomon Islands Program Support (ASIPS) Facility by DT Global.

The Role

Suitably qualified and experienced Solomon Islands Citizens and Permanent Residents are strongly encouraged to apply for this role.

The HR Adviser will provide capacity building support to the MEHRD Workforce Management and Development/Human Resource Management Unit, while maintaining compliance with SIG’s Ministry of Public Service.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will need the following:

  • Bachelor level qualifications in human resource management or development or equivalent with experience in strategic human resource planning and management.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a human resource management practitioner with a focus on workforce planning, ideally within an education setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to build effective relationships, convey complicated/sensitive feedback and work with multiple stakeholders in a cross cultural context.
  • Proven ability to apply high levels of judgment and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to share knowledge, build relationships, mentor, and coach people to develop skills appropriate for the context, preferably in an international development context.
  • A demonstrated understanding of, or direct experience in applying gender equality and anticorruption strategies.
  • Ideally, experience in the operation of Aurion is desirable.

Remuneration

This is a locally engaged position and will be commensurate to the technical knowledge and years of relevant experience according to the Solomon Islands local labour standards.
