McConnell Dowell is looking for a Foreperson.

The Foreperson is responsible for coordinating and supervising project construction activities; responsibilities include supervision of construction personnel/subcontractors, reporting, and ensuring compliance, and Quality, Safety & Environmental standards are met.

KEY OUTCOMES, TASKS & DUTIES

QUALITY, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Ensure that you and all staff adhere to the company’s quality, safety and environmental policies and procedures and that acceptable working methods and practices are implemented;
  • Ensure safe work conditions are maintained at all times;
  • Ensure that all hazards are identified and communicated to your team and supervisor;
  • Attendance at daily tailgate and weekly toolbox meetings.

COMPLIANCE

  • Adherence to the McConnell Dowell Management System and Project Execution Plan;
  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with the requirements of the relevant specifications, codes and standards, which form part of the contract.

SUPERVISION OF CONSTRUCTION PERSONNEL

  • Control and motivate the workforce and manage the employee disciplinary process as and when necessary (refer to the authorities section);
  • Assess and allocate priorities as necessary;
  • Supervise Subcontractors as directed from time to time.

COORDINATION OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

  • Organise construction activities in accordance with work schedules and specifications;
  • Ensure that all equipment, material and people resources are effectively utilised in accordance with the construction program so that construction activities are completed on time and within budget.

INDUCTION & TRAINING

  • Ensure that all personnel are inducted and trained in their roles and responsibilities and are competent to perform the duties allocated to them.
  • Evaluate and undertake training of staff under your control as required.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Superintendent on training undertaken by those under your control.

PROCUREMENT

  • Closely liaise with the Superintendent regarding the procurement requirements of the project; ensuring adequate time is given to procure materials;
  • Ensure that construction materials are stored in a safe and secure manner.

REPORTING

  • Ensure that all shift reports are fully completed by the end of each shift;
  • Timely submittal of daily diary and other site performance information as requested by Site Management;
  • Promptly advise management of any issues that could be variations to the contract and keep accurate records of such issues;
  • All safety incident reports/NCR’s to be recorded and reported to the Superintendent in a timely manner;
  • Plant damage forms to be completed and reported to the Superintendent in a timely manner.

GENERAL

  • Report any mechanical or electrical faults to your supervisor;
  • Any other duties as may be required by the company.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Superintendent;
  • Liaise with Project Engineer and Project Manager.

STAFF REPORTING TO THE POSITION

  • In accordance with the size of the project.

AUTHORITIES

  • As determined by the Project Manager.

COMPETENCIES

  • Trade qualifications relevant to the construction industry;
  • Minimum of five years’ experience relevant to the designated project and have previously held a position of Supervisor;
  • Sound working knowledge of HS&E requirements and implementation of same;
  • Strong and proven ability to lead, direct and manage groups of diverse employees;
  • Exceptional vigour and energy;
  • Good communication skills
