VACANCY
An Exciting and Challenging opportunity exists at Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL), the Leading Agricultural Business in the Solomon Islands, for: Safety Officer.
We are seeking to recruit a passionate and motivated individual to be part of our Mill Team as a Safety Officer. The role of the Safety Officer is ensuring the safe and effective operation of any and all areas and facilities within the Mill operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Help develop emergency procedures and operate emergency equipment correctly.
- Assess and document hazards, risks and controls in a manner consistent with established procedures and practices.
- Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plans.
- Conduct ongoing review of operations and processes to identify potential hazards, risks and control measures that should be implemented to reduce these risks, including costs involved in implementing such measures.
- Ensure a safe environment by making sure workers have all the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and any other safety equipment to perform their roles safely.
- Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first aid supplies.
- Ensure the safe handling, storage & disposal of hazardous materials and ensure that all company employees meet all OSH requirements.
- Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
Job Requirements:
- Preferably Bachelors Degree in areas related to Environmental work/Occupational Health Safety.
- Ideally has a safety certificate.
- Preferably minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in related field.
- Experience in carrying out internal audits for required standards.
- An engaging personality and the ability to communicate with people on all levels;
- Strong MS Office skills;
- Excellent work ethics.
- Team Player.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing workload and prioritising tasks;
- Work to a high standard with excellent organisation and communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively to achieve outcomes;
- Proactive with a can-do attitude.
- Ability work flexible hours with minimum supervision.
