As required by the State Owned Enterprises (SOE) Act 2007 and SOE Regulations 2010, the Solomon Islands Water Authority, trading as Solomon Water, hereby calls for applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates who wish to be part of Solomon Islands Water Authority Board of Directors.
Established under the Solomon Islands Water Authority Act 1993, Solomon Water is responsible for providing municipal water and wastewater services to the urban areas of Solomon Islands and some provincial centres, and continues to experience rapid infrastructure development and growth within a transformative organisation to meet the increasing demand for its water supply and sanitation services.
We are seeking candidates who have recent or/and relevant qualifications and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience in private enterprise and /or SOE’s together with good understanding of relevant legislation in the Solomon Islands.
- Candidates with recent experience at board and executive management with good financial, legal, commercial and/or business expertise from other relevant industries.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen in successful private companies.
- Strong experience in corporate strategic planning, organisational development and its implementation at corporate level, particularly in a commercial environment.
- Demonstrate scope and depth of management and leadership experience, preferably at a senior leadership role in a large organisation.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards and experience in governance and public policy.
- Experience in engineering and/or community development projects.
- Demonstrated ability to think independently and work collaboratively with members of the Board.
- Make all decisions and take all actions based on principles and reasonable prudence, and in good faith in matters of Board operations.
- Make themselves available and dedicate adequate time to SIWA business as a Member of the Board.
- Focus on improving customer services systems and community engagement.
Specific requirements
The Solomon Water Board has set out further minimum qualifications and requirements for Board members as provided for under Section 12 (1) (d) of the SOE regulations as follows:
- Should possess appropriate experience, skills and knowledge in one or more fields of law, finance, management, marketing, research, administration, technical operations, corporate governance, or other disciplines related to the SIWA's business.
- Meets the knowledge, skills and experience requirements that are desirable for a Director to ensure appropriate balance of these attributes for the Board as a whole.
- Meets the Boards requirements for appropriate gender balance on the Board as a whole.
Solomon Water supports the Government’s initiatives to increase the involvement of women in business and particularly in SOE governance. Business women with suitable experience are encouraged to apply.
