Background

The MAI-MAASINA GREEN BELT (MMGB) is an incorporated non-profit community-based organization that was legally registered in 2017 under the Solomon Islands Charitable Trusts Act (1996). MMGB desires to create a network of communities in the Southern region of Malaita Province and to liaise with the local government and international organizations in relation to conservation and climate change issues.

Position Summary

The Technology Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting community renewable energy projects initiated by the Mai-Maasina Green Belt. The officer will be responsible for the implementation, coordination and monitoring of technological aspects of these projects to ensure their success and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the technical planning and design of community projects.
  • Develop technical specifications and project plans, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of Photovoltaic energy systems.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, and community stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
  • Ensure all technical aspects of projects are completed within the budget and timeline.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for installed Photovoltaic energy systems.
  • Assist on how to use user manuals and documentation for community reference.
  • Implement monitoring systems to track the performance and efficiency.
  • Prepare regular reports on project progress, challenges, and achievements for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with community leaders and members to ensure their needs and preferences are integrated into project planning and implementation.
  • Ensure all projects comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments for communities.

Experience and Qualification Required

  • Certificate or Diploma in Photovoltaic Energy, Electrical, or a related field.
  • Experience in working with renewable energy projects and/or experience in community project management would be a bonus.

Skills Required

  • Must have sound knowledge and skills in electrical and in Photovoltaic Energy systems
  • A good communication skill is required.
  • Must also be able to write and speak good English, pidgin English or Are ‘Are / Kwaio. Language is necessary.
  • Must be able to write good report well on time.
  • Must show case strong organisational skills.
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations and work in diverse environments.
