Hiring of Foreman Builders (x3) – Gizo Based Girls Tekem Action Lo Climate Change (GTACC) Plan International & SI National Youth Congress

Plan International Solomon Islands head office is in Honiara and its implementing provinces include Honiara City, Malaita Province, Western Province & Guadalcanal Province.

PLAN International Solomon Islands (PISI) has partnered with the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress (SINYC) in implementing a project called Girls Tekem Askson lo Climate Change (GTACC). The Girls Tekem Akson lo Climate Change '' overall objective is to ‘support adolescent girls and young people to show leadership in the society including the community, province, and country as a whole and empowering them to explore opportunities to advance at the Pacific and Global level.’ The project is implemented in Western Province supporting 16 youth association in advocating on climate change impacts and localized actions on adaptation and mitigation. To support climate actions in the communities, youths have been supported by PISI with resources to kick start eco-friendly economic activities that will eventually sustain these youth groups. The economic activities proposed by the youths include fish storage, seaweed planting-buying, poultry layer, honey bee, aluminum recycling, printing and jewelry. There will be 13 storages built in 13 communities:

  • 11 storages will be built for storing fish, seaweed and honey bee and
  • 2 leaf huts for poultry layers will be built for 2 communities.

Plan International Pacific is seeking to hire three (3) experienced Foreman Builders based in Gizo, Western Province with proven track records of working with charitable organizations in building constructions in the communities. The hired Foreman Builders will supervise the construction of following based on the existing designs:

  • 5 storages for fish
  • 2 leaf huts for poultry layers
  • 3 storages for Seaweed
  • 3 Honey Bee Keeping Storage

The infrastructures should be constructed within the set timeframe of PISI with no adjustment to the BoQ to avoid incurring cost for PISI.
The foreman builders will be applying for the following:

Contractor No. 1 5 Storages for Fish
Contractor No. 2 2 Poultry Leaf huts
Contractor No. 3 3 Honey Bee Storage and 3 Seaweed Storage

Skills required
The Foreman Builder Contractors should fulfill the following Work Requirement:

  • Has received Technical & Vocational Training in Construction work
  • Reviewing BoQs and providing reliable guidance in procurement using the existing Bule Prints
  • Management Skills in Supervision and Ability to work within deadlines,
  • Have the ability to manage cost, makes informed decision in resource efficiency without wastage
  • Be able to communicate effectively with the team they work with to ensure that work is done correctly and safely.

Experience required
The Foreman Builder Contractors should fulfill the following Work Requirement:

  • Five -10 years of experience in construction work
  • Experience working with non-profit organization
  • Can be able to work community members who will provide labor
  • Familiarity with the local context in which the constructions will be made
  • Proven records working in communities

Qualification required.

  • Certificate in Building & Constructions
