The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is implementing the Kiwa Watershed Interventions for Systems Health Plus (WISH+) project to promote Integrated Water Management (IWM) for biodiversity, climate resilience, and human health co-benefits in Solomon Islands. The Melanesia region (Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands) is known for its biodiversity and dependence on natural resources. However, it faces severe threats from forest loss, impacting ecosystems, human health, and vulnerability to climate shocks. As part of the WISH+ project, WCS is seeking a consultant to develop gender-sensitive Water and Sanitation Safety Plans (WSSPs) within island-wide sustainable development frameworks for communities on Kolombangara Island, Western Province.

Scope of Work:
The consultant will:

  1. Adapt the WCS Fiji WSSP template to suit the Solomon Islands' context.
  2. Train staff from Kolombangara Island Biodiversity Conservation Association (KIBCA) and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (RWASH) in data collection for WSSPs.
  3. Draft WSSPs for eight communities using a gender-sensitive, inclusive approach.
  4. Provide ongoing technical support during implementation.

Timeline:
The consultancy is expected to run between February 01, 2025 and May 31, 2025.

Requirements:

  • Strong expertise in water and sanitation management in Solomon Islands.
  • Experience in Integrated Watershed Management and Nature-Based Solutions.
  • Proven skills in adapting WSSPs, capacity building, and community engagement.
  • Cultural and socio-economic sensitivity for Solomon Islands communities.
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas and work in variable conditions.

Application:
Submit a cover letter and CV by email to athughes@wcs.org. Closing date for submission is January 24, 2025
