We, Hyundai Engineering Company, the Engineering Procurement and Construction Contractor for Tina River Hydropower Development Project (3X5MW) are looking for Biodiversity Field Officer for our project.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in Botany, Ecology or Natural Resource Management coupled with professional experience in terrestrial ecological assessment, including being suitably qualified to undertake targeted flora and fauna surveys
- Skills in the development and delivery of effective ecological assessment, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
- Skills in plant species, plant community type and threatened ecological community identification
- Fauna identification skills, including identification of threatened species and their habitats.
- Experience undertaking fauna spotter-catcher work on construction sites and knowledge of threatened fauna species of Guadalcanal Province.
- Experience with field data collection, and management and analysis of ecological data
- Some experience in GIS, field mapping and developing and managing spatial datasets
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks of Solomon Islands, conversant with IFC Performance Standards, Guidelines, Guidance Notes, Good Practice Notes and ADB Safeguards Policy.
- Must have experience in reviewing and preparing safeguard documents.
- Familiarity with Solomon Islands’ environment and land laws and environmental consents beneficial.
Responsibilities:
- Review the process of the current Environmental and Social Management Plans
- Undertaking flora and fauna surveys four times a year or if required throughout Project area and interstate including verification and mapping of threatened ecological communities, regional ecosystems, vegetation communities, threatened species and biosecurity species
- Undertake wildlife shepherding as a spotter/catcher during construction activities
- Development of rehabilitation solutions and identification and delivery of biodiversity offsets
- Provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways
- Prepare report (weekly, monthly, quarterly, field monitoring) on the safeguard risks with appropriate actions to be taken for all sub projects and ensure that timely actions are taken.
- Support the construction activities by adequately providing specific instructions/suggestion to workers.
- Manage Subcontractors conducting E&S works
- Support the trainings, and awareness programs are meticulously planned and delivered as per the schedule.
- Closely provide assistance and deliver capacity building training to the sectors to close knowledge/skill gaps and minimize the likelihood of risks to happen to projects.
- Organize and participate in weekly site inspection with Employer and its representatives and monthly with Project Office. Ensure potential hazards or risks identified are accurately reported and provide instruction for corrective actions to be undertaken.
- Contribute to weekly and incident HSE reports prepared by the HEC HSE Manager.
- Extensive review of Monthly reporting on Environmental and Social contents in the Monthly Progress Report, KPI sheet and local contents as per the EPC Contract.
- Adequately preparing and compiling the Quarterly Safeguard reports.
- Report any E&S non-compliances to the HSE Manager
- Participate in Stakeholders Engagements and community consultations.
- Supplement data/reports for preparation or update of ESMP by consultants, if required.
