The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available in the Solomon Islands for a TB & HIV Technical Advisor to join the Tuberculosis Working Group at Burnet!
In this role you will work with the Solomon Islands Ministry of Health, Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV Programs, the Global Fund, and other key partners to support the design and implementation of effective models of care for drug-susceptible (DS)-TB, drug-resistant (DR)-TB and HIV. Based in Honiara, you will support the TB and HIV response through clinical mentoring, technical guidance, training, systems improvement and implementation.
You will also:
- Build capacity of national and provincial staff with a focus on decentralised, person-centred care
- Help strengthen data management and quality reporting
- Contribute to national policy, guidelines and SOP development
- Plan and facilitate practical clinical training and mentoring
- Advise on the implementation of new treatment regimens for TB and HIV
- Work closely with the National TB Program, health workers, and other local partners and stakeholders to drive sustainable impact

Let’s talk about you
The following criteria are essential requirements:
- Qualified and registered medical doctor who has completed basic physician training in adult or paediatric medicine
- Clinical experience in infectious diseases or a related field
- Additional qualification in global/public health or international development, or 7–10 years’ experience in TB/HIV program implementation
- Strong experience in capacity building/training of local staff
- Experience in guideline development and implementation in public health
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- High level of adaptability, self-motivation, and ability to work independently in resource-constrained settings
- Demonstrated success in strengthening health systems, including procurement and supply chain, case management and reporting
The following are preferable/desirable but not essential:
- Experience designing or implementing TB and HIV service delivery models
- Prior experience working in the Pacific Region
- Experience integrating TB services with other public health programs
- Experience mentoring healthcare workers at national and provincial levels
