Summary of Duties
The University Librarian provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership for library services, digital information resources, and knowledge systems across Solomon Islands National University. The role ensures the Library supports teaching, learning, research, postgraduate development, and community engagement, while driving innovation in digital library services, scholarly communication, and information literacy across all campuses and delivery modes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for Library services across Solomon Islands National University.
- Implement Library strategy to support teaching, learning, research, and community engagement.
- Oversee digital library systems, repositories, and research support services.
- Strengthen student and researcher success through information literacy and research skills programs.
- Lead digital transformation and development of modern library services and resources.
- Manage library staff, budgets, and operational resources.
- Build partnerships with national, regional, and international stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with copyright, licensing, and information governance standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) with at least eight (8) years relevant post-qualification experience, including senior leadership experience in an academic or research library; OR
- PhD in Library and Information Science (or related field) with at least three (3) years senior leadership experience in a university or researchlibrary.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with a recognised professional library association.
Professional Experience: - Senior-level experience managing academic or research library services in a complex tertiary education environment.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, policy development, and service implementation aligned to academic and research priorities.
- Experience managing digital library platforms, institutional repositories, and research support services.
- Experience supporting researchers and postgraduate students in research and scholarly communication.
- Experience managing staff, budgets, and resources across multi-campus environments.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-level analytical and performance reports for senior leadership.

KSC 1: Demonstrated ability to provide strategic academic and operational leadership for a multi-campus university library.
KSC 2: Strong understanding of the role of libraries in supporting teaching, learning, research, and community engagement.
KSC 3: Demonstrated contribution to institutional reputation through measurable impact on student success and research performance.
KSC 4: Knowledge of policy development and implementation related to library and research resources.
KSC 5: Ability to advise on future infrastructure and learning space requirements.
KSC 6: Ability to develop and leverage partnerships, funding opportunities, and external collaborations.
KSC 7: Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
KSC 8: Experience developing policies relating to records management and stewardship of Indigenous and culturally significant knowledge.
Remuneration and Benefits
- Annual Salary: $180,178.42 - $204,704.80
- Annual Leave Entitlement:20 Working days
- Annual Gratuity: 15% of Annual Basic Salary
- Housing : 15% housing allowance of basic salary or rental entitlements under the University Policy.
- Other Terms and Conditions of Service relevant to this position: As per Contract and SINU Policy.
Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time position with a contract term of five years, renewable based on performance and mutual agreement.
